Overview

What is a Geo Technical Drilling Machine?

A Geo Technical Drilling Machine — also called a geotechnical or soil investigation drilling machine — is hydraulic field equipment used to investigate subsurface soil, rock formations, and groundwater before construction begins.

Before any building, bridge, highway, dam, railway or borewell is built, engineers need to know what lies beneath the ground. Starway Tech's machine drills into the earth, collects soil samples, performs Standard Penetration Tests, and produces the data engineers rely on for safe, stable, cost-effective foundations.

Customization

Built For You — Not Off The Shelf

We do not manufacture one-size-fits-all machines. Every project is different, so we listen to your requirement first, then design and build your machine accordingly.

We customize based on
  • Project type — building, road, bridge, borewell, mining
  • Ground conditions — soft soil to hard rock
  • Depth requirement — shallow to deep programs
  • Mobility — self-propelled, mounted or trailer
  • SPT & testing requirements
  • Site accessibility for narrow or remote sites
  • Power source suited to your region
  • Budget and project scale

    In-Situ Soil Testing

What Is SPT — Standard Penetration Test?

SPT is the most widely used in-situ soil testing method in the world. It measures the resistance of soil to penetration, giving engineers the N-value (blow count) needed to:

    • Determine soil bearing capacity for foundation design
    • Estimate required foundation depth
    • Assess liquefaction risk in earthquake-prone areas
    • Design pile foundations for high-rise buildings
    • Evaluate ground conditions for roads & highways

    Regional Context

Why Africa Needs Geotechnical Investigation Machines

Africa is experiencing one of the world's fastest infrastructure growth phases. East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa are investing heavily in roads, buildings, water infrastructure, mining, ports, and renewable energy — every one of which requires geotechnical drilling before construction begins.

Yet many African countries still import expensive equipment from Europe, the USA, or China — at prices beyond the reach of local contractors and SMEs. Starway Tech offers a high-quality, hydraulic-powered alternative manufactured in India, with USA-imported PowerPack components, at a price point that makes professional geotechnical drilling accessible.

    • Road and highway networks connecting cities and regions
    • Building construction — housing, offices, hospitals, schools
    • Water infrastructure — boreholes, dams, irrigation systems
    • Mining and resource extraction across the continent's mineral wealth
    • Ports, airports, and logistics infrastructure
    • Renewable energy — hydropower, solar, wind

    Operating Guidelines & Maintenance

    • Level the ground before positioning the machine
    • Set all four hydraulic outriggers correctly before drilling begins
    • Verify no underground utilities exist at the drill site
    • Exercise extra caution on soft or waterlogged ground
    • Check engine oil and hydraulic oil levels daily before operation
    • Change hydraulic filter as per maintenance schedule
    • Allow 5 minutes warm-up idle time before operating in cold conditions
    • Stop immediately if overheating is detected
    • Adjust drilling speed according to soil type
    • Ensure all drill pipe connections are tight before each run
    • Maintain water circulation for cooling and cuttings removal
    • If jamming occurs at depth, use reverse rotation — never force
    • Maintain exact 760mm hammer drop height for accurate N-values
    • Ensure free fall of hammer — no partial drops
    • Conduct SPT at every 1.5 meter interval as per IS 2131 standard
    • Record all results accurately in the borehole log
    • Operator must wear helmet, gloves, and safety boots at all times
    • Keep clear of rotating parts during machine operation
    • Check for overhead power lines before raising the mast
    • Ensure all operators know the location of the emergency stop
